From Dust to Dazzle- Ultimate Guide to Post-Construction Cleanings

Post-construction cleaning is an intensive, deep cleaning that requires specialized equipment to handle construction-specific messes. It requires attention to detail, knowledge of different building materials, and how to clean them without causing damage. It transforms the space from a construction site to the breathtaking oasis you imagined.

A Class of It’s Own

A Post-construction cleaning goes far beyond the typical commercial or residential cleanings. It’s designed to remove all traces of construction debris, dust, and residue, making it safe and ready for occupancy. It ensures safety and health by removing sharp objects like screws and eliminating any dust and allergens left behind.

A Necessity

Renovations not only leave debris from scrap materials, packaging, and discarded items, but also dust from drywall, concrete, and wood. That layer of dust settles everywhere, and can also be a health hazard if not properly removed.

Phases of Post-Construction Cleaning

Most professional services break the process into three phases to ensure a meticulous clean.

Phase 1 is considered the “Rough Cleaning,” often done before the flooring and fixtures are installed. It focuses on removing all the large debris, trash, and scrap materials. A heavy duty vacuum with a HEPA filter is used to get rid of the bulk of the dust. Depending on the level of dust, washing walls and other surfaces can be required along with the floors.

Phase 2 is the “Light Cleaning” also known as the precision or detailed cleaning. It removes the finer layers of dust and grime from surfaces and vents. It’s another round of vacuuming accompanied by more detailed dusting of fixtures and appliances. Also spot cleaning walls, baseboards, and doors remove any scuff marks or stains at this point.

Phase 3 is the “Final Cleaning” or “Touch-Up Cleaning,” and is the most meticulous phase. All surfaces are thoroughly cleaned to remove remaining dust, smudges, and fingerprints. All kitchen and bathroom surfaces sanitized, including inside and out of cabinets. Then all fixtures, glass, and mirrors are polished. Floors are then deep cleaned, polished, waxed, or carpet shampoo if needed. Exterior cleanup can be included in this phase especially if concerned with curb appeal for selling purposes. Sweeping or blowing off porches, patios, sidewalks, and driveways wraps up this phase.
